Although National Bike to School Day was next week, we Islanders have to be different and so we’re holding our version of this event tomorrow, May 15. To confuse matters a little bit more, May 15 is also National Bike to Work Day.
Members of Squeaky Wheels and the Bainbridge Island Police will be at some Island schools in the morning to encourage riders and provide small incentives.
Some local schools are organizing Bike to School Trains to provide safety in numbers. Wilkes is organizing one from Rolling Bay. Sakai has a variety of them from different locations, all with an online signup.
Although Washington State was just named #1 Bicycle Friendly State in the country for the second year in a row by the League of American Bicyclists, don’t be complacent about safety tomorrow.
